Who knew a cup of coffee could turn into a significant donation of infant necessities for expectant parents struggling to make ends meet? That’s what happened this week when Shane picked up his usual cup of joe at his favorite coffee stop and noticed the flyer for a Community Baby Shower.

I hope anyone reading this story will consider making a contribution during this donation period.”

Editor’s Note - Please consider making a donation now in light of the following facts: Today (9/11) the Labor Department released a report that inflation hit 2.5% in August, extending a five month cooling streak in the consumer-price index. This almost certainly will cause the Fed to begin reducing interest rates at a meeting next week. Yesterday, the U.S. Census Bureau said inflation-adjusted media household income was $80,610, up 4% from 2022, and the first increase since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This good news is tempered by the fact that household incomes have really only returned to where they were in 2019, before the pandemic hit. And, California’s official poverty number as calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau for the 2021-23 window, means it has the nation’s highest level of poverty. This is due to California’s high cost of living when factoring in our housing and energy costs.*

So, please do what you can. It will be very much appreciated.
